Who is FBAA?

FBAA is the umbrella organization for bus operators in Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia.

The challenge

Through our partner Sprekerspool, we were asked to give a keynote on AI for 250 attendees at FBAA's annual inspiration day. The goal: a practical, inspiring keynote showing how AI can already add value in the bus industry today.

"How can we show bus operators what AI can concretely do for them today?"

The approach

The bus industry is a very specific niche, so good preparation was essential. We organized three online calls with different bus operators and organizations across Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia. That's how we found out that some already use ChatGPT, Microsoft Co-Pilot or similar tools, others are working on full AI projects to optimize things like planning and maintenance, and that there's still a lot of untapped potential at companies that know about AI but aren't using it yet.

What we did

These insights formed the basis for a keynote that offered eye-openers for beginners and practical cases for the more advanced. During the keynote, we:

• Showed concrete examples of AI in the bus industry (planning, customer service, marketing).
• Gave live demos of AI tools that can be used right away.
• Shared tips & tricks for rolling out AI step by step, without a big price tag.
• Built in interactive moments to talk through questions and challenges.

The keynote took place during FBAA's spring reception, which made for an energetic, open atmosphere.

Results

The keynote gave new insights to operators who weren't yet actively using AI, and concrete next steps to companies that had already experimented with it. Feedback from attendees was positive. Many said they felt inspired to bring AI into their daily processes, and a few reached out right away for further AI workshops.

What made this keynote unique was the industry-specific approach: not a generic AI presentation, but one fully tailored to the bus industry, combining inspiration and practice with relevance for operators in Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia.
